Welcome to West Buckhead and West Midtown
Underwood Hills in Atlanta’s Upper Westside
The neighborhood was founded in 1902, when it was dubbed Northside Park, but construction in the area, in what at that point was the edge of the city, didn't pick up steam until the 1920s. Many residents then were employed by the nearby Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Building in the neighborhood continued through the post-World War II boom period. By the 1960s, construction of Interstate 75 through northwest Atlanta removed some houses and turned the area into a residential island surrounded by the highway and major commercial corridors. Flanked by Defoors Ferry and Howell Mill this neighborhood is in a central close in location. Convenient to Buckhead and the booming Westside. Many new shopping areas and restaurants are just a stone throw away!
Loring Heights
Buckhead has famously been referred to as Atlanta’s crown jewel of upscale shopping, dining, nightlife and residences, but this posh neighborhood has a hidden gem of its own: Loring Heights. Loring Heights is a quaint South Buckhead community consisting of just over 330 houses, providing a neighborly feel among residents.
Centrally located for work and play Homes are an eclectic mix of 1940s bungalows and new construction projects nestled between two scenic parks, Loring Heights Park and the new Tanyard Creek Greenspace.
Loring Heights proudly features a diverse blend of homeowners from all walks of life, from professional singles to young and growing families. The community feeds into top Atlanta public schools like Sutton Middle and North Atlanta High and is conveniently located near prestigious private schools like The Howard School, Atlanta International School and others. E. Rivers Elementary is another top performing school in the neighborhood that was completed this past winter.
Flanked by Northside Drive and Peachtree Street and with easy access to the city’s major interstates and highways, Loring Heights is perfectly located in beautiful South Buckhead. Outdoor Retail & Dining destination Atlantic Station is only a short drive away, as is the Woodruff Arts Center and all of the excitement that Buckhead, Downtown and Midtown Atlanta have to offer.
Loring Heights has its own activities to offer as well. The neighborhood association coordinates year-round social events and gatherings to promote a sense of community and belonging among residents. For instance, during the months of May through September, the neighborhood hosts Friday Fiestas. Neighbors gather at a designated neighborhood home on the first Friday of each month to share appetizers, drinks and conversation. Other community activities include an annual Easter egg hunt, a Fall Festival and a holiday party.
Berkeley Park
Berkeley Park was established in 1921, and for a time was considered a part of Underwood Hills. In 1996, Berkeley Park was again recognized as an official neighborhood in the city of Atlanta. The neighborhood boundaries of Berkeley Park are I-75 to the north, Northside Drive on the east, Howell Mill Road to the west and 17th Street to the south.
Some or all of the Berkeley Park area is listed as Berkeley Park Historic District
on the National Register of Historic Places. Convenient to shopping, downtown, Atlantic Station and so much more. A very urban neighborhood full of cute bungalows.
